Fredman Barahona*Elyla Sinverguenza uses performance as the fundamental resource of his artistic practice, in occasions moving through photography, video and installations. His work relates social anthropology, theatre and contemporary art to reflect on identity, sexuality, body politics and cultural borders. He’s the first Nicaraguan artist to ever receive a grant from the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, category of Emerging Artist 2018. As a researcher and activist his interested in cultural practices regarding ephemeral drag, fleeting identities and gender bending expressions in indigenous/mestizo rituals in the Americas. His work has been included in: IX, X Nicaraguan Biennial – IX, X Central American Biennial, Nicaragua/Costa Rica – XII Havana Biennial, Cuba. Barahona was awarded the 3rd Crystal Ruth Bell Residency Re:search, China Residencies/Red Gate Gallery in Beijing, China. Most recent publication in Vassar Review Magazine (Vassar College) Camp & Kitsch: Modes of Cultural Appropriation and Resistance. He’s a member and founder of Operación Queer collective that works on blurring limits between academia, art and activism. His art work has been shown in Spain, Holland, Nicaragua, Canada, United States, China, Cuba, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Chile. Barahona lives and works in Managua, Nicaragua.

Fredman Barahona*Elyla Sinvergüenza utiliza la/el performance como recurso fundamental de su práctica artística, desplazándose en ocasiones a la fotografía, el vídeo y la instalación. Su trabajo relaciona la antropología social, el teatro y el arte contemporáneo para reflexionar sobre identidad, sexualidad, políticas del cuerpo y fronteras culturales. Es el primer artista Nicaragüense en recibir una Beca de la Fundación de Arte Cisneros Fontanals, categoría de Artista Emergente 2018. Como investigador está interesado en prácticas culturales que involucran arte drag efímero, identidades en fuga, expresiones que cuestionan el binarismo de género especialmente dentro de rituales mestizos e indígenas en las Americas. Su trabajo ha sido incluido en: IX, X Bienal de Nicaragua – IX, X Bienal Centro Americana, Nicaragua/Costa Rica – XII Bienal de la Havana. Es miembro y fundador del colectivo Operación Queer que trabaja en borrar los límites entre academia, arte y activismo. Ha participado en exposiciones y otros eventos artísticos en Estados Unidos, Canadá, España, Chile, Holanda, China, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Cuba y Nicaragua. Barahona reside y trabaja en Managua, Nicaragua.
